THE IPL PHOTO FACIAL PROCESS AND RECOVERY
At our office, your IPL photo facial treatment should take no more than 45 minutes. It’s a quick in-office procedure with minimal discomfort. The process typically includes:
- Preparation: A topical numbing cream is applied to your face and allowed to sit for 20 to 30 minutes for optimal absorption.
- IPL treatment: The IPL is applied to the areas needing treatment. You may feel a warm sensation as the light is applied, but the treatment is quite gentle.
- Post-procedure: For up to 24 hours, you may experience skin flushing. Some patients may have very mild swelling, depending on their skin sensitivity.
- Recovery: The normal recovery period ranges from two to five days, depending on sensitivity and the treatment performed. You can expect to see significant improvements in discolorations and overall skin texture within a week. Freckles and hyper-pigmented lesions may darken and look dry for four to seven days before flaking off naturally. If a vascular lesion is treated, some bruising may occur, particularly for lesions outside the facial area.
For certain conditions, multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve the best results. Generally, the more severe your skin blemishes, the more treatments you'll need. While IPL effectively treats existing skin issues, it doesn’t prevent new ones from arising.
